Man Utd to make £80m move for Jadon Sancho… but there's a catch

The England international has been highly touted to be one of the next big stars in European football and according to The Independent, Manchester United are ready to splash the cash on him.

Sancho was sold to Borussia Dortmund by United’s rivals Manchester City in 2017 and since then, the 18-year-old has become one of Europe’s young hot prospects.

Sancho has consistently performed to a high level this season, pushing American winger Christian Pulisic out of the starting line-up.

The confident forward has scored nine Bundesliga goals and registered 10 assists this season.

The Independent also state that United were also looking to sign Philippe Coutinho but don’t feel it’s necessary to fill a deeper position.

Instead Ed Woodward has pinpointed Sancho as the man who can strengthen their squad significantly for next season.

Dortmund, though, are happy with Sancho’s progress and would rather he stayed at Signal Iduna Park for another season.

They’re also of the opinion that Sancho would rather stay in Germany for another term, instead of going back to the Premier League with bundles of hype to shoulder.

When Sancho left Manchester, his manager at the time Pep Guardiola was left baffled as to why the youngster would leave his improving squad.

“We did absolutely everything but I think it was not [about] the salary, maybe he thought he would get more minutes at Dortmund and I can understand that,” he told the Telegraph.

“He visualized that he will play more than here. I don’t know what will happen.

“We will see because in the end [young players] have to show on the pitch their quality.

“But he has to know, the family has to know and especially the managers have to know we had a lot of confidence in him.”

Sancho returned to England with Dortmund to play Tottenham in the last 16 of the Champions League last month – but in a losing effort.

Dortmund lost the first leg 3-0 at Wembley before a Harry Kane goal in Germany finished proceedings.

The German side, however, are in contention to win the Bundesliga this season, and are level with Bayern at the top of the league, slightly lagging behind on goal difference.
