Google Chrome is the American tech giant’s internet client that is incredibly popular.
In fact, Chrome is the world’s most popular browser on desktops and smartphones, meaning it surpasses rivals like Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Safari in terms of monthly users.
Chrome is regularly updated by Google, meaning new changes and improvements are consistently introduced.
Before fresh features for the browser arrive for all users, they are typically released for Chrome Canary.
Chrome Canary is an experimental version of the client that is used to test forthcoming functions.
XDA Developers recently noticed a new feature for Chrome on Android that suggests Google is working on a new way to navigate through different tabs.
The outlet posted images of what it dubbed a “bottom toolbar” that displayed icons for different pages the user had open.
The functionality was positioned at the bottom of the user’s display, just above the device’s Android navigation keys.
In addition to showcasing icons for pages already open, a “+” icon was also shown that allowed new tabs to be opened.
XDA Developers also noted a tiny arrow was present on the toolbar that was shown to present an expanded view of the current tabs the user had open.
The new method of switching between, and opening, new tabs appears to allow for much faster navigation than is currently present in Chrome.
At the moment, if a user wants to switch between tabs they have to press a toggle next to the URL.
From there the user is able to view all the tabs they have open and switch accordingly.
This particular screen also allows for a new tab to be opened.
Alternatively, a new tab can be opened by pressing the settings button at the top right-hand corner of the software.
XDA Developers noted the new tool has not yet available in Chrome Canary – it is unknown how the outlet discovered it.
However, the publication’s discovery does appear to suggest Google is experimenting with new methods of tab navigation.
It is unknown if or when the new feature will release for all Chrome users.
