The Cheltenham Festival 2019 gets underway today and here at Express Sport we’re on hand to bring you the fast results as the horses come in!
Cheltenham 2019 promises to be a firecracker of a festival over the next four days, with hundreds of horses racing over the week.
Today sees Apple’s Jade take on Buveur D’Air in the Champion Hurdle – but the outside tip is Laurina to claim victory.
It all started at 1:30pm today when Klassical Dream won the Supreme Novices Hurdle, before Duc des Genievres claimed the Arkle!

14:30 UPDATE: Handicap Chase next
So what’s next up? It’s the Handicap Chase!
And there is no clear favourite here. Up For Review is the starting favourite with the bookies at 5/1 – although some have him as high as 7/1.
He’s another Willie Mullins ride.
Mister Whitaker is priced at 8/1, with Coo Star Silva is 9/1.

14:20 UPDATE: Duc des Genievres WINS the Arkle
So, Glen Forsa and Kalashnikov both went down there – but both horses are OK it seems.
Lalor was taken out as well.
It’s Duc des Genievres’ day though as he romped home for victory at 5/1.
Two from two for Willie Mullins!
And it’s a stunning ride from outsiders Us And Them (14/1) and Articulum (25/1) who place second and third.

And we’re underway in the second race of the day!
– Oruna races out into the lead, with Clondaw Castle second.
– Oruna is down and hits another jockey, who flies off his horse! Knocknanuss leads.
– We’ve a breakaway three of Knocknanuss, Clondaw castle and Duc Des Genievres.
– Duc des Genievres wins the Arkle!
14:05 UPDATE: Arkle parade
The horses are out and Duc des Genievres is a strong outside tip at 6/1 to win the Arkle.
The odds are falling on Hardline meanwhile, as punters move to make the Elliott-trained runner favourite.

The Arkle Challenge Trophy is next up at 14:10 and Glen Forsa is the 4/1 favourite for the win.
Our tipster The Scout also has Glen Forsa tipped here. Kalashnikov is also worth a look at.
While former Express Sport racing editor Patrick Weaver is backing Paloma Blue at 10/1.

13:40 UPDATE: Klassical Dream wins
Klassical Dream was out at 6/1 at one point to win the first race at Cheltenham.
An absolute storm from Ruby Walsh.
Second was Thomas Darby, with Itchy Feet in at third.

– Brandon Castle has raced away from the pack!
– He’s now been caught and the Klassical Dream is now seeking to take the lead.

They’re about to get underway in the Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham.
And Al Dancer is the 4/1 favourite to win, with some bookies placing him at 9/2!

13:25 UPDATE: Horses are out!
The horses are parading around the ring and Willie Mullins has outside hopes of Klassical Dream winning here.
Ruby Walsh rides in the first race and Klassical Dream is priced at 11/1.

13:10 UPDATE: AP McCoy on Buveur D’Air
AP McCoy reckons Buveur D’Air is well placed to win the Champion Hurdle at 15:30.
“He has been here twice, has won twice and this is the race of the festival,” McCoy said.
McCoy is sporting a black eye today and said: “I was just asked to do a bit of sparring with Anthony Joshua!
“Nah I was just playing a bit of football.
“I should know better but I’m used to it!”

13:00 UPDATE: Half an hour warning!
We’re half an hour from the first race at Cheltenham!
And Angels Brea is the second favourite with the bookmakers down on the course for the Novices’.

12:45 UPDATE: Nicky Henderson loving Buveur D’Air
All eyes seem to be on Buveur D’Air ahead of the Champion Hurdle here at Cheltenham.
And Nicky Henderson is very proud of the Champion Hurdle favourite.
“There’s no doubt the dangers are the two Irish Mares and Apple’s Jade was very impressive at Leopardstown last time,” Henderson told Unibet.
“Laurina could be anything, but I wouldn’t want to swap Buveur for anything and he’s raring to go.”

12:35 UPDATE: Michael Owen’s hot tip
Michael Owen has revealed his tip for Cheltenham.
“A brilliant week of racing starts today at Cheltenham,” Owen tweeted.
“There’s something magical about seeing man and beast in unison displaying unbelievable skill, courage and desire to win.
“Let’s hope everyone comes home safe.
My tip of the day is Buveur D’Air in the Champion Hurdle.”

12:25 UPDATE: Cheltenham weather issue
It’s a wet and windy Day One at Cheltenham as the crowds battle the weather to get to the course.
There is a yellow weather warning across Britain today – not the nicest weather for spectators that’s for sure!
The ground is soft and we could see some stodgy racing at Cheltenham today.
And there are even concerns the bad weather could affect the running of the festival over the next few days!
Wednesday is expected to be brighter than Tuesday – but the final two days of the festival will see wind and rain batter the course.

12:10 UPDATE: Cheltenham first race tips
All eyes are on the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at 1:30pm today and there are plenty of tipsters out there making their claims for the winner.
The Scout – Express Sport’s historic tipster – has Fakir D’Oudairies as a great tip for a place in the first race.
Meanwhile, Express Sport’s former racing editor Patrick Weaver has gone with Al Dancer – the 4/1 favourite – for the run.
Elixir De Nutz should be avoided.
There are other tipsters saying punters should also avoid backing 11/1 outsider Vision D’Honneur.

11:45 UPDATE: Ruby Walsh Cheltenham tips
Veteran jockey Ruby Walsh has Duc Des Genievres or Hardline to win the Ankle Chase at 2:10pm today.
“Duc Des Genievres ran well at Gowran Park for Willie Mullins on his last day out over two and a half miles,” Walsh said.
“He has to improve on that to win the Arkle Chase here though.
“It’s a wide-open race, but Duc Des Genievres or the Gordon Elliot-trained Hardline are the two each-way bets for me.”

11:35 UPDATE: Gordon Elliott reveals his pick
Gordon Elliott is banking on Apple’s Jade to win the Champion Hurdle at the horse racing today!
“She is our big hope for a championship race victory this week and her preparations have gone well,” the 41-year-old told Betfair.
“She is working nicely and showing all the right signs at home and she has obviously had a great season already having won three Grade 1s.
“Last year we made a mistake not running her between Christmas and Cheltenham so I think the run at Leopardstown early last month will stand to her.”
