Anne Hegerty Twitter: The Chase star speaks out on Bradley Walsh’s ‘harsh insults’

Anne Hegarty, 60, has been an integral part of The Chase cast since 2010 and has developed a hilarious relationship with host Bradley Walsh, 58, who introduces the Chasers with cheeky insults at the start of each episode. Last week, Anne Hegarty responded to one viewer who tweeted her asking: “#TheChase why are Bradley’s insults to Anne always so much harsher than any of the others?” The Chase favourite replied in view of her 113,000 Twitter followers: “Because we adore each other, and he knows he can take the p**s out of me and I’ll laugh at it.” The fan soon wrote back, conceding: “Well that is ok. I know it’s in jest, just like to know people are ok. Love the show you are our favourite.”

More fans of The Chase took to the comments section to share their love for Anne, AKA The Governess, with one saying: “You are adorable Anne and so is Bradley. We absolutely love the banter.”

“I love the banter between you and Bradley,” another agreed. “It’s generally on point — but when he wanders off on a tangent — I know you’re up for it. Such fun.”

“Anne you also come out with the best comebacks,” a third pointed out, while a fourth added: “It’s all said with love we can tell.”

Anne previously spoke out about a remark Bradley aimed her way which one viewer called “condescending”.

“Why did Bradley have to add ‘female’ to greatest players at the end there?” the Twitter user asked, referring to Bradley’s speech about Anne. “Slightly condescending…”

However, Anne swiftly chipped in, coming to Bradley’s defence as she revealed the real reason he cited her gender.

“Because being on elf the best female players in the world is my USP,” she said.

“The overwhelming majority of top quivers are men.”

Anne continued: “You know how you don’t take part in the World Quizzing Championship even though you could? Neither do most women.”

The Chaser also used Twitter to join in with a debate after fans were left confused when they misheard her co-star Paul Sinha, 48, on the quiz show.

“Did Paul just say this was the end of his #TheChase career?”

“No – he said it was a highlight of his ‘Final Chase’ career,” another viewer explained. “As in, Final Chase part of the show.

“I rewound it and put the subtitles on!”

Anne then tweeted: “This happens to me all the time.

“I say something about ‘my Final Chase’ and Twitter gets hysterical and thinks I’m leaving.

“We have ALWAYS referred to the endgame as the Final Chase,” she clarified.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
