Sunday Brunch: 'Big rival' Simon Rimmer jibes at fellow chef James Martin

Simon Rimmer and Tim were joined on today’s instalment of the Channel 4 show by James along with Dido, James Fleet, Jonnie Peacock, Kerry Godliman and Mark Wright.

After listing off today’s guests, Tim then turned to Simon to whisper: “James Martin’s on the show.”

To which Simon replied: “I know, I put him down that end of the table. Big rival.”

“Big rivals these two,” Tim laughed.

James, the former Saturday Kitchen host, then joked: “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“We don’t work with you, you work with us,” Tim jested.

A while later Tim decided to have a little dig at both of them in order to “break the ice”.

He said: “You can’t really call your jobs ‘jobs’ really, you’re just knocking up a bit of dinner on telly.”

“I thought I’d break the ice by having a go at both of you,” Tim explained.

James announced on his Twitter that he would be appearing on today’s show, and his fans were thrilled.

“Looking forward to seeing you @jamesmartinchef on @SundayBrunchC4,” one fan tweeted.

Another added: “Motivation to get out ma bed.. James Martin on Sunday Brunch.”

“Great way to start my Sunday mornings,” a third declared.

A fourth simply stated: “Looking forward to it James.”

Last week’s instalment of the Sunday morning show saw Tim and Simon scolded by Julian Clary.

The comedian thought Tim wasn’t giving him enough eye contact during an interview and he had no problem in bringing it up.

Can I have the occasional bit of eye contact?” he questioned.

Tim explained: “I was just looking at your poster,” which had just appeared on the screen.

“Oh, I thought you weren’t looking at me,” Julian remarked. “I know what the poster is like.”

Sunday Brunch airs Sundays at 9.30am on Channel 4.
