Apex Legends Mobile WARNING: Beware of FAKE Android apps for hit Battle Royale shooter

Apex Legends Mobile looks to be coming to iOS and Android devices in the future.

Apex Legends has been a huge hit since launching on the PS4, Xbox One and PCs last month.

And the hot new battle royale shooter looks like it will be getting a mobile version, much like Fortnite and PUBG has done.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson has said the gaming giant is “looking at how to take [Apex Legends] to mobile and crossplay over time.”

However, scammers have tried to take advantage of this huge demand for Apex Legends Mobile by circulating fake versions of the app.

Security experts Check Point have spotted a fake version of Apex Legends Mobile that’s out in the wild.

While there are also plenty of videos on YouTube claiming to show people how they can download Apex Legends Mobile right now.

One YouTuber – My Instant Search – in a post online showed what happens when the fake Apex Legends Mobile app is downloaded.

The YouTuber followed a guide on the video sharing site claiming to show how to get Apex Legends Mobile.

The offending how-to video has tens of thousands of views and has been liked hundreds of times.

The APK that My Instant Search downloaded looked extremely convincing, with an authentic looking loading screen and intro video.

But after that is shown users are prompted to input ‘mobile verification’ – and to get that they have to download some ‘free’ apps.

This just leads the YouTuber on a loop of downloading numerous apps and then having to click through quizzes and other such websites to ‘unlock’ the game.

However, despite following the prompts this so-called mobile version of Apex Legends does not unlock.

It’s simply a malicious app likely designed to try and generate money for the authors of the APK.

And as My Instant Search points out, this fake Apex Legends Mobile app has a file size of just over 151MB.

The real version of Apex Legends Mobile would likely be well over 1GB, a clear sign that the app being circulated right now is a fake.

The Apex Legends Mobile scam follows in the footsteps of fake versions of Fortnite Android that were circulated prior to its release last year.
