Most Sky customers will be well aware of the firm’s smartphone apps.
Services such as Sky Go allow users to watch all of the firm’s content whilst on the move with sports and entertainment all available when away from your main set-top box.
These apps are hugely popular but there is a problem if you use them when not connected to Wi-Fi as they can consume a huge amount of 4G data.
For example, watching an entire F1 race will munch through around 2.9GB of your allowance and an episode of Game of Thrones will eat up 1.4GB.
With most smartphone users having contracts with limited data, it’s unlikely many are getting the full potential of their Sky subscription in fear of eating up their monthly allowance.
Sky is clearly aware of this and it’s Sky Mobile platform has now launched a service called Watch.
This new bundle offers customers the chance to watch Sky content, such as Sky Go, Sky Kids, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, without using any of their data allowances.
Watch is available to all Sky Mobile customers, although what you can access will depend on your Sky TV subscription.
If you don’t have a TV package, you can still benefit from streaming Sky apps that don’t require a subscription without using your data, such as Sky News.
Speaking about the new service, Sophia Ahmad, Director of Sky Mobile, said: “We launched Sky Mobile to connect our customers to more of what they love. Streaming films and TV shows on-the-go is now one of the most popular ways to pass time while travelling or commuting – and our new Watch offer makes it easier for our customers to stay up to date with the unmissable must-watch television, from Game of Thrones to F1 races, that we know our customers love.”
Sky is keen to point out that along with this new data free streaming its Mobile service also offers Roll, the first UK data rollover service available to all customers, where all unused monthly data is carried over.
You can also exchange rolled data for money off Sky Mobile products through the Piggybank Rewards programme.
Although this new plan will be good for Sky customers it’s worth remembering that other operators offer similar bundles.
Three Mobile, for example, has its Go Binge service with plans above 12GB getting data free streaming from apps including Netflix, TV Player, Snapchat, Apple Music and Deezer.
