Every fandom has an unsettling, toxic corner to it – as seen with Star Wars when Kelly Marie Tran was bullied off social media, and more recently with Captain Marvel as an army of trolls and their bots attempt to drag down ratings and scores on Rotten Tomatoes and YouTube. It’s a pertinent topic, as even right now there are so-called Marvel fans desperate to derail Captain Marvel’s opening weekend. Larson was asked about the matter in a recent interview with Collider.
The question – and her response – were aimed at the real fans seeing and encountering the toxicity.
The interviewer said: “One of my favourite things about superhero movies across the board is the fan community around them.
“But every once in a while a little toxicity creeps in to that fandom, so what would you say to a superhero movie lover who encounters that in the fandom?”
“Oh… who cares?” Larson smiled.

Reviews for Captain Marvel have been generally positive, if unspectacular: the movie holds an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 65 on Metacritic.
Its box office superpower, though, should be fairly big: the movie is set to win the best opening weekend of 2019 so far in the US.
It’s already estimated to have logged the second best March preview day ever in the US, behind only Batman V Superman.
Larson has spoken out before about the trolls’ efforts to disrupt the movie, which began when she vowed to diversify the media at her press junkets.
When a Fox 5 DC interviewer mentioned that “headlines” have misrepresented her, she said: “It’s hard for me to comment on that because I don’t know what the headlines were or what was said or what I said or what people think I said.”
But she clarified: “All that I know is, what I’m looking for is to bring more seats up to the table.
“Nobody is getting their chair taken away.”
