Brendan Rodgers burglar takes SELFIE outside house as family hid

The image, which went viral on social media on Friday night, appears to show one of the burglars standing outside the home of the ex-Celtic manager.

Rodgers’ house, in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, was raided at 2am on Wednesday in a terrifying event while he was out.

His wife, Charlotte, and step-daughter Lola were forced to hide in a locked bathroom while the house was ransacked.

Police are still currently investigating the crime, but now it appears that they have been given an additional lead in their search for the one of the people involved following the emergence of this photograph.

In the image, a man wearing a balaclava stands in front of a window, believed to be the home of Rodgers, with a photo of the couple on their wedding day in the background.

It is not clear where the image originated from.

Police have confirmed nobody was hurt during the raid, but a number of items – including medals – were stolen.

David Videcette, an ex-Scotland Yard detective, told The Sun: “It’s a massive own goal by this criminal. Once the police circulate that image, I’m fairly confident that somebody will come forward, either a police officer who has previously dealt with them or someone who knows them.

“The police will then make an arrest and there is technology in place to compare people’s irises so it can be established that it is the same person.”

Former Scotland Yard DCI Mick Neville told the Sun: “Human Super Recognisers are able to identify suspects (or victims) from a poor or partial facial image.

“Whilst facial recognition computer software requires a high quality, front on face photo, humans can recognise people from all manner of images. The Scottish Police need to employ a Super Recogniser to look through images of known burglars and compare with the selfie.

“Identification of faces is one skill where humans can still beat the machines.”

Rodgers was asked about the raid and confirmed that it occurred while he was in England.

“I assume the house was watched and they assumed no-one was in,” he said.

“Charlotte didn’t hear the house being broken into at the back and they came in and ransacked the bottom of the house then went on a wander through the upstairs.

“They came into the room and then panicked. We have a panic button for the police and she hid in the bathroom and called me.

“I didn’t hear the phone because I was deep in sleep but I saw a missed call and rang about 3.30 and she told me what happened.”
