Pokemon Go Special Raid Weekend: Rayquaza returns for NEW event

Pokemon Go developer Niantic has announced plans to hold a special Raid Weekend soon.

The Pokemon Go Special Raid Weekend features an appearance from Legendary Pocket Monster Rayquaza.

The event runs from March 15 to March 18, so there’s still time to prepare.

“Are you ready for a challenge? From Friday, March 15, to Monday, March 18, there will be a Special Raid Weekend!” reads a Niantic post.

“The Legendary Pokemon Rayquaza will be available in Raid Battles!”

If you want to give yourself a good shot at defeating and capturing Rayquaza, then you’ll probably want to bring your best Ice-type Pokemon to battle.

Strong Ice-type Pokemon include Jynx, Articuno, Walerin, Abomasnow and Glalie.

Ahead of the Special Raid Weekend, Pokemon Go fans can take part in the Battle Showdown event.

The event revolves around Fighting-type Pokemon, which means you’ll encounter lots of Mankeys, Machops and Meditites.

“It’s time to challenge team leaders and fellow Trainers for special rewards during our Battle Showdown event!” reads a Niantic post.

“Level up Gym Badges, earn Stardust, and show your team pride during this limited-time event.”

Running until March 12, the event rewards players with double Catch, Battle and Raid stardust.

There’s also double XP for gym badges and the ability to earn up to five rewards a day from Trainer Battles.

Likewise, you’ll also have the chance to earn up to three rewards a day for challenging team leaders. This includes Rare Candy.

If you’re really lucky, you might even encounter a Shiny Mankey and Shiny Machop.
