A deputy assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service was shot Thursday morning in a Rockford, Illinois, hotel by a man he was there to arrest and who is currently on the run, authorities said.
Rockford Police Lt. Andre Brass said officers from multiple agencies were searching for Floyd Brown, 39, who had been staying at the Extended Stay America hotel off N. Bell School Road when a team of officers attempted to serve him with several warrants at about 9:15 a.m.
Brown, who authorities originally said was 45, immediately fired on officers and shot the deputy with a rifle, Brass said. He is believed to be armed with a rifle.
By early afternoon, officers had surrounded his vehicle on Interstate 55 in Logan County.
The injured officer has not been identified and his condition is unknown. It was not known what Brown was being arrested for.
“We just want to end this incident peacefully with his surrender,” Brass said. “That’s what we are looking for.”
