Man Utd news: The first player John O’Shea singled out for praise will SHOCK you

Manchester United beat PSG 3-1 at the Parc des Princes to reach the quarter-final of the Champions League.

Romelu Lukaku scored a brace and Marcus Rashford scored a penalty deep into second-half stoppage time to win the game.

O’Shea was working as a pundit for Sky Sports alongside former Manchester City centre-back Joleon Lescott after the match.

The defender, who now plays for Reading, was asked by presenter Geoff Shreeves who stood out for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

“So many heroes for Manchester United tonight. Who deserves honourable mention to start with?” Shreeves said.

O’Shea replied: “Chrissy Smalling. Chrissy Smalling was immense.”

His choice led to laughter amongst the panel and disbelief with Shreeves responding: “Hang on, this is the centre-halves union.

“Lukaku’s gets a brace, Rashford scores an unbelievable penalty.”

In response, O’Shea said: “We’re getting to them, we’re getting to them, we’re getting to the glory boys.”

But who else impressed O’Shea apart from Chris Smalling?

“I think Rashford, stepping up to take that penalty, incredible,” he continued.

“You’d have to say the midfield. Beforehand, obviously the pressure they were under.

“Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] spoke about it in the press conference and before the game, the freshness that they had and they would have had the eagerness to do well.

“But to come in with [Scott] McTominay, Fred, [Andreas] Pereira, just the three of them together, man of the match.

“Obviously we’re not mentioning the lads who scored the goals.”
