Pokemon Sword and Shield: New Pokemon leaks and Switch release news

In a series of new leaks, it appears we might have learnt more about the upcoming title from Game Freak – Pokemon Sword and Shield.

As always rumours and reports need to be taken with a pinch of salt but can sometimes give us a few clues before a game is launched.

And Pokemon Sword and Shield may have the pedigree to become the no.1 best-selling game so far on Nintendo Switch.

The latest rumours connected to the game include news on new evolution types coming to the game.

It is supposed to be the most ambitious title in the series, so it would make sense that Game Freak would want to explore new frontiers.

And it fits in with a recent leak that also ties to Meltan to Sword and Shield in a big way.

Posted on 4Chan before the big announcement, the supposed leaker claimed that Meltan would play a big role in the game.

The reason people are taking note of this report is that it popped up before the game was announced and revealed both its name and that the new region would be based on Great Britain.

The same post also predicts that The legendary Pokemon in Sword and Shield will be a metal snake and a wooden horse.

Armoured Evolutions is another new feature that will reportedly be part of Sword and Shield when it releases later this year on Switch.

How these evolutions are triggered is information that was not shared, but several notable Pokemon have been linked to it.

This includes Charizard, Mewtwo, Flygon and Zeraora, which would make for a pretty powerful lineup.

Most of these claims remain unconfirmed and will need to be treated as rumours until we hear more from Nintendo.

What we do know is that the game will be set in the Galar region, which is described as an “expansive region with many environments”.

“Galar is an expansive region with diverse environments,” Nintendo explains. “An idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forest, and craggy, snow-covered mountains.

“The people and the Pokemon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region.

“Fans will have the opportunity to visit various Gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become Champion. They will not be alone since the newly discovered Pokémon they choose to be their first partner will be by their side.”

New starter Pokemon include a chimp called Grookey, a rabbit called Scorbunny and a water lizard known as Sobble.

And some fans have their own theories on what surprises Sword and Shield will include. One is that the Galar region will feature alongside Kalos as a place Trainers can visit.

Here are a few reasons why the two places could feature in Pokemon Sword and Shield, according to the original Reddit post:

  1. In Pokemon X and Y, there was a Great War. Supposedly it was between the Pokemon of Kalos and another Land. Galar is based on the UK and Kalos is based on France. France and the UK had their fair share of wars in the past, so it’s possible that Galar was involved in the Great War.
  2. As you can see from the map of Galar, there is a railroad system. I think this train goes to Kalos. As you can see in the map of Kalos, there is a railroad going into the mountain in the blue circle. We were never able to see what was the use of that railroad in X and Y.
  3. Pokemon X and Y was slightly unfinished. They are the only main games in the series to never get a remake/sequel. There are few areas in the game that are inaccessible, and there are some items that haven’t seen any use.
  4. Melmetal. According to his Pokedex entry, he was seen 3000 years ago. Coincidently the Pokemon war in Kalos happened 3000 years ago. And the entry mentions that Melmetal is back for “some reason”.
