Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast host speaks out on 'sickness' following challenging expedition

Dan Walker scaled the highest mountain in Africa with a host of famous faces last month to raise money for Comic Relief. The gruelling task proved challenging for the BBC Breakfast journalist and his fellow celebrities as he detailed some of the obstacles they faced. Praising stars including Strictly Come Dancing ’s Shirley Ballas and Love Island 2018 winner Danny Dyer, the 41-year-old broadcaster shared a passionate message on his Instagram account. Alongside a series of pictures of himself and the team, he told his 64,7000 followers: “Still can’t quite believe we did this.

“Despite a 36 year age range this amazing bunch made it to the top of Kilimanjaro.”

Revealing what the group had overcome during the course of their trek up the mountain, he went on to say they fought “exhaustion, altitude sickness, fatigue and all sorts of other battles”.

He continued: “We all made some friends for life but, more importantly, we’d love to raise an amazing amount of money for @comicrelief.”

The father-of-three finished his post by encouraging his followers to donate to the worthy cause and support Red Nose Day.

In one of photographs he uploaded online, Dan is seen placing a tender arm on Shirley’s shoulder as they climbed the mountain.

Beside him stood retired Labour MP Ed Balls, who trailed behind Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall, 26, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 27.

A second snap saw the reporter and Loose Woman regular Anita Rani, 41, standing side by side as they looked out into the distance.

Behind the duo was the picturesque backdrop of mountains and greenery from atop Mount Kilimanjaro.

Another photo saw Dan cuddling up to X Factor champion Jade, with the pair both sporting dark sunglasses.

Jade wrapped up warm with a woolly hat and scarf, as well as a waterproof jacket and jumper.

Dan’s fans raved about the images, with many taking to the comment section to congratulate him on an incredible achievement.

One person penned: “Amazing photos Dan! You guys did an amazing job for @comicrelief. We’re looking forward to the documentary next week and of course #RND19.”

Another fan exclaimed: “Amazing achievement @mrdanwalker What a month you’ve had!”

A third commentator said: “Looking forward to the documentary. Watched your updates on @bbcbreakfast @mrdanwalker you all are amazing. Donations sent.”

Someone else remarked: “That last pic [thumbs up] total legend. I’ve donated.”(sic)
