US President Donald Trump jumped to 715 from 766 in the new rich list compiled by Forbes, the business magazine said on Tuesday.Mr  Trump’s wealth was largely made up of a portfolio of real estate, with most of that tied up in New York City investments. But the president also made huge sums of money from his golf courses and brands. Criticism has previously been levelled at Mr Trump that his private ventures are a conflict of interest with his day job.

Mr Trump’s fortune remains flat $3.1billion despite his surge up the rich list.

The figure sits well below his net worth of $4.5billion from 2015 before he was elected US president.

Forbes said some of Mr Trump’s vast property portfolio has suffered in recent years, which might explain why it has not risen.

Citing Trump Tower and nearby 6 East 57th Street in Manhattan, the publication said they had lost an estimated $64 million in value.

In Miami, Florida, the presidents’ golf resort lost $26million in value.

The decline in value is explained reportedly linked to Mr Trump’s presidency, Forbes says.

Much of the clientele are reported to come from left-leaning northeast states and around 100,000 booked room nights were lost after Trump gained power, a source said.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos topped the rich list with a net worth of £131 billion, according to the ranking.

Mr Bezos founded Amazon in 1993 but his wealth has soared as the website has become an online conglomerate.

Behind him is Microsoft founder Bill Gates on $96.5 billion.

In third place on the Rich list is business magnate Warren Buffett on $82.5 billion.
