Star Wars: ‘Give it a REST!’ Mark Hamill takes huge SWIPE at Disney over new movies

The actor, who has played Luke Skywalker in the iconic saga, admitted in a new interview that he shared fans’ concerns that Solo – despite a warm response from critics and moviegoers – simply came out too soon after Star Wars: The Last Jedi. LucasFilm and Disney now seem to be taking things a little slower, at least as far as movies are concerned (multiple TV shows are in the works) – and it seems this comes after Hamill told executives what he thought.

According to Den of Geek, the legendary star said: “In our day, it was three years apart.

“Now they’re two years apart, with an independent movie [Rogue One, Solo] in between.

“I say to the executives at Disney, ‘Really? Han Solo five months after our movie? Give it a rest!’

“They say, ‘well, we have to keep the schedule clear for Mary Poppins’.”

He added cheekily: “But I can be mouthy, because you know, what are they gonna do, fire me?”

Hamill also said he is unhappy with the fact that he never got to share screen-time with the older Han (Harrison Ford) in the new trilogy.

“I just thought, Luke’s never going to see his best friend again,” he said.

“You look at it in a self-centred way. I said that it was a big mistake that those three people [Luke, Han, Leia] would never reunite in any way.”

He added: “Luke, Han and Leia will never be together again, and I’ll probably never get to work with Harrison again.”

Hamill is confirmed to be in the cast for the saga’s final movie, Episode 9, which recently wrapped production.

Given that Luke Skywalker died in The Last Jedi, it remains to be seen whether he’ll be in the mix as a Force Ghost or as part of flashback scenes.

Star Wars 9 is out on December 19 in the UK.
