Luke Perry dead: How did Riverdale and 90210 star die? Cause of death revealed

Luke Perry has died after he suffered a “massive stroke” last week. According to TMZ, the actor passed away on Monday morning at St. Joseph Hospital in Burbank California. He was rushed to hospital last Wednesday morning after suffering the stroke while at his Sherman Oaks, CA home. 

Representatives of Perry confirmed the news in a statement, saying the actor had been surrounded by his family when he died.

The statement read: “Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke.

“He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder and other close family and friends.”

The statement added: “The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning.

“No further details will be released at this time.”

The family has not provided additional details at this time.

According to TMZ, paramedics arrived at the home of Perry in Los Angeles around 9.40am local time on Wednesday, February 27, after the fire department received a call for someone suffering a stroke.

The report said the 52-year-old was transported to a nearby hospital and that his condition is unknown. 

The last known update was that the 90210 actor was “currently sedated and under observation at the hospital” before the news of his death was confirmed on Monday.

Luke Perry first rose to fame on Beverly Hills 90210.

The Ohio-born actor starred in the show as Dylan McKay from 1990 to 1995 then from 1998 to 2000.

He has also starred as Fred Andrews on the hugely popular CW series Riverdale.

In addition, he had various guest roles on shows including Criminal Minds and Will & Grace.

Perry was married to Rachel Minnie Sharp from 1993 to 2003.

The couple had two children, Jack and Sophie together.

Perry became an advocate for testing for colon cancer after undergoing a colonoscopy in 2015 that revealed precancerous growths.
