The iconic frontman’s death has sparked a flurry of tributes across the country today; with Emily Eavis saying in her own post that the act were supposed to be taking to the stage at her festival this summer. They were famously the first ever dance band to headline Glastonbury back in 1997.

She wrote: “We are so saddened to hear about the passing of Keith Flint.

“He’s played here so many times with the Prodigy and was booked for 2019. What an incredible frontman.”

Captioning a video of their performance, she added: “Here’s a clip from ‘97 when they were the first dance band to headline Glastonbury – a huge, unforgettable moment.”

The clip has racked up over 140,000 plays in just a few hours; accumulating over 5,500 Likes.

In a joint statement, Prodigy members Liam Howlett and Maxim Reality confirmed Flint’s passing.

“It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint,” they wrote.

“A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed.

“We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”

The Prodigy have sold over 20 million albums worldwide, and their sales in the UK alone are thought to be in excess of 4.7 million.

They have hit the top of the country’s album listings seven times; six with a studio record and once with a compilation.

The group’s most recent release, No Tourists, was released in November last year, picking up positive reviews across the board.

Their 1997 opus, The Fat of the Land, went 4x Platinum in the UK – spawning the smash hit singles Firestarter and Breathe.
