77: Miguel Almiron is guilty of trying too hard. He’s got options but decides to have a crack from distance. The ball rolls tamely wide.

75: Chance! Matt Ritchie delivers the first real decent cross to Salomon Rondon. The striker attacks the header but Arthur Masuaku makes a crucial block. Looked to be heading in without the West Ham defender.

73: Marko Arnautovic arrives. He replaces Javier Hernandez for the final 20 minutes. Can’t see his cameo being a quiet one.

70: Isaac Hayden booked for tugging Robert Snodgrass to the ground. One of those “good fouls for the team” that pundits like to talk about.

68: Second change for Newcastle sees Paul Dummett on for Fabian Schar. I can only imagine that’s tactical – because Dummett isn’t the most attacking full-back you’re likely too see.

65: Diop with a crunching challenge on Ayoze Perez, who stays on the deck. West Ham are free to play on but Declan Rice knocks it out of play to loud boos. I remember the days when that would be applauded.

62: LOL! Sorry for the use of that term but seeing Mo Diame and Matt Ritchie collide into each other on the halfway line will never not be funny.

Hernandez manages to get a touch to Fredericks’ inviting cross from the right flank but the Mexican is unable to keep his effort down.

59: Save! Rondon uses his strength to hold off Diop before firing straight at Fabianski. That, I believe, is Newcastle’s first shot on target this afternoon.

56: End-to-end stuff here as Salomon Rondon and Manuel Lanzini look to unlock defences at either end of the field. You get the feeling there are more goals in this. Couldn’t tell you which way they’ll go though.

54: Ritchie’s cross from the left bounces off Fredericks for a Magpies corner. The wide-man delivers it himself but Felipe Anderson heads clear at the near post.

51: Signs of life from Newcastle, who continue to improve. Ayoze Perez nips through into the West Ham penalty area before dragging wide. One goal for the visitors and this could threaten to be interesting.

48: Isaac Hayden has a sighter straight after the break. A quick one-two with Salomon Rondon sees the midfielder fire tamely wide.

HT: Well what can you say? West Ham have bossed this from start to finish and thoroughly deserve their two-goal advantage. Newcastle have been underwhelming and looked to have had Plan A, B and C taken from them by Declan Rice’s early goal.

“Declan Rice running the show here. Pings a lovely 30-yard forward pass out to feet on the right, calls for it back, and when he gets it, plays a perfectly-weighted no-look first-time forward pass out to feet on the left. Full of confidence,” writes our reporter Paul Brown.

47: Newcastle will do well to protect their two-goal deficit because Miguel Almiron has conceded a free-kick just outside the penalty area. Felipe Anderson takes and promptly blasts it into a two-man wall.

Noble steps forward… wait… Chris Kavanagh stops him mid-run for encroachment. Noble steps up again… converted! The midfielder fires it into the left-hand corner.

PENALTY TO WEST HAM

41: Lejeune tickles Hernandez’s ankle inside the box and referee Chris Kavanagh doesn’t skip a beat before pointing towards the spot.

39: Booked! Full-blooded challenge between Longstaff and Snodgrass. They both hurtled into the sliding challenge but it was the Newcastle man who landed the first blow.

36: Danger! Schar is booked for a full-on, WWE-style bodycheck on Felipe Anderson. Manuel Lanzini sets the ball down… straight into the wall. The Argentine gets a second bite at the cherry but spoons it out of play.

Perhaps we should forgive him after nine months on the sidelines.

34: Another lengthy pause in play as Cresswell goes down. He collided with Hayden but he could also still be feeling the effects of that clash of heads. Arthur Masuaku takes his place.

32: What a delightful passage of play from West Ham. Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lansing exchange passes at speed and the Brazilian international is sent free. He looks to find Snodgrass on the far side but Lejeune blocks.

29: GOALLLFSSSIDEE! Schar’s deflected 20-yard effort drops for Perez inside the penalty area, who duly puts the ball away. However, the linesman’s flag had already been raised.

27: Booked! Mark Noble needlessly tackles Miguel Almiron from behind over on the touchline. I think that’s just Noble’s way of introducing himself to a new Premier League import.

24: Matt Ritchie lumps a high ball into the box. Fabianski plucks it out the air under no pressure whatsoever.

21: Not seeing too much from Newcastle. They just don’t seem to be able to get a foot-hold in the game as West Ham continue to dictate terms. Manuel Lanzini has not been heavily involved – but he’s reading the game well enough.

18: Robert Snodgrass with a totally abysmal Sunday League foul on Matt Ritchie over in the corner. You could see it coming a mile off. Anyway, Ritchie delivers an equally poor cross and West Ham clear.

Just a bad passage of Premier League football.

16: Both players are up on their feet and acknowledge neither were at fault. Manquillo looks to have come off worse as the Stuart Pearce bandage is slapped around his head.

13: Declan Rice has scored in two of his last four Premier League home games after failing to score in his first 19.

12: Ouch! We’ve got claret all over the place at the London Stadium. Literally as Cresswell and Manquillo have a clash of heads. Nobody is at fault but we’ll have a lengthy pause while the pair are assessed.

10: What a challenge! Almiron lays the ball across the penalty area for Rondon, but a perfectly-timed challenge from Diop halts the striker in his tracks.

7: And there’s the breakthrough! Declan Rice, future ENGLAND international opens the scoring inside seven minutes.

Benitez will be furious with his side because that was so simple! Robert Snodgrass whips into a dangerous area from a corner and Rice rises highest to nod it home.

5: Salomon Rondon tries to get a shot away but he’s denied by Angelo Ogbonna. Obviously I have cursed the striker by bringing him.

3: Lascelles takes the opportunity to plough into the back of Hernandez on the touchline. Should a classic battle of little and large developing there.

Dubravka rushes out to gather Fredericks’ teasing cross before Hernandez can pounce for the home side.

Prediction

17:29: I have a sneaky suspicion that West Ham will win this today. They succumbed to a very respectable defeat to Manchester City last week and have been in cracking form at the London Stadium. 2-0.

Billy Bonds

17:27: The East Stand officially becomes the Billy Bonds stand.

Bonds, now 72, played 799 games for the Hammers over a 21-year period. He replaced Bobby Moore as captain and led the team to four cup finals and two FA Cup trophies.

He’s been out and paraded on the surface. Great reception and well deserved.

Benitez calls for calm

17:24: Rafael Benitez has told Newcastle to continue fighting for Premier League points as if they will still need something at Fulham on the final day of the season to clinch survival.

Back-to-back victories over Huddersfield and Burnley in the last week have eased the Magpies six points clear of the relegation zone and raised hopes they can match last season’s top-10 finish.

However, Benitez knows there is still plenty of work to be done before they are sure of a third straight top-flight campaign, starting at West Ham on Saturday evening.

He said: “Three or four weeks ago we were thinking it would be very, very difficult, now we are starting to talk about, ‘Maybe you can finish 10th.

“It is, for me, very clear – we have to stay calm, we have to go there, try to get three points and if we can, fine, if we cannot, carry on.

“I have said in a lot of interviews that the Fulham game, the last one of the season, will be the most important – hopefully not, but we have to make sure that we continue doing things in the same way that we are doing already.”

The Argentinian midfielder, who has made two substitute appearances since recovering from cruciate ligament damage, replaced Michail Antonio.

Marko Arnautovic will be back in the West Ham squad after illness. Full-backs Aaron Cresswell (toe) and Arthur Masuaku (knee) are also available after missing the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City through injury. Centre-back Fabian Balbuena is back in training after a knee injury but will not be involved.

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey will miss out after asking to play for the club’s under-23s as he returns from injury. The England international, who is working his way back from a long-term thigh problem, currently finds himself behind Sean Longstaff, Isaac Hayden, Mohamed Diame and Ki Sung-yueng in the Magpies’ pecking order after sitting out since the beginning of January. Manager Rafael Benitez has no fresh selection problems with only keeper Rob Elliot (back) and defender Ciaran Clark (knee) unavailable.
