Jerry Lee Lewis health: Great Balls of Fire star, 83, hospitalised after suffering stroke

Jerry Lee Lewis, 83, is now “recuperating” surrounded by his family after the stroke.

A statement released on Jerry’s Facebook page said the rock and roll star is expected to make a full recovery.

It read: “Last night, Jerry Lee Lewis suffered a minor stroke.

“He is with his family, recuperating in Memphis and the doctors expect a full recovery.”

The Great Balls of Fire singer is said to be looking forward to recording a new album when he gets out of hospital.

They continued: “The Killer looks forward to getting back into the studio soon to record a Gospel record and on the road performing live for his fans. His family requests privacy at this time.

“Well wishes and prayers are greatly appreciated.”

They added: “‘But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord’ – Jeremiah 30:17.”

Jerry still puts on show-stopping performances and his next one is booked at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in April.

Last year, the singer wowed the crowd at the Riot Festival in Chicago.

Following the news of his stroke, fans took to Twitter to wish Jerry a speedy recovery.

One person wrote: “Just heard a few minutes ago that Jerry Lee Lewis, one of the last men standing, one of the last of the rock n rollers suffered a minor stroke. He is in my thoughts and prayers right now, and I wish him a healthy recovery.”

Another said: “Prayers going out to the Killer.”

A third commented: “Great balls of fire, let’s hope that my favourite old rocker Jerry Lee Lewis recovers from the stroke and gets back behind the piano.

“‘The Killer’ was one of a kind and can still rock better than most. He had me dancing as a bobby soxer.”

Jerry first broke into the music industry in 1956 and had his huge hit songs Great Balls of Fire and Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On the following year.

The chart-topping wonders brought Jerry international fame, despite criticism for the songs.

Jerry has certainly had a colourful life and caused controversy when he married his third wife, his 13-year-old first cousin once removed while he was 22-years-old.

The scandal caused uproar and Jerry was blacklisted from radio and almost vanished from the music scene.

Jerry went on to tie the knot another four times and is a father to six children.
