April the Giraffe: When did April the Giraffe have her baby? How many babies has April had

April had been anticipated to go into labour towards the end of March, but the Animal Adventure Park said she was expecting a lot earlier than expected. The live stream has begun and more than 7,500 have already tuned in to watch as April gives birth. The park wrote on Saturday: “Well, giraffe fans, it’s been some time since an update of this nature.

“Ironically on the anniversary of the camera truly going viral!

“We did not anticipate doing anything like this for another 1-2 weeks.

“April is advancing. Behavioural and physical changes are suggesting we are very much moving towards having a calf.

“Perhaps sooner than need of March, as originally predicted based on keeper observations. (But hey – we’ve been wrong before).”

April’s pregnancy was longer than expected when she gave birth to her son Tajiri.

The average giraffe is typically pregnant for 15 months, but April was famously pregnant with Tajiri for 16 months.

When did April the Giraffe have her baby?

April the Giraffe had the world watching when she was pregnant with her son Tajiri, in 2017.

More than a 1.2 million viewers tuned in to watch Tajiri’s birth on April 15, 2017 at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York.

The birth was live streamed on YouTube and had more than 232 million live views since February when it was first switched on.

April gained worldwide fame from the video which showed the late stages of her pregnancy.

The calf was named Tajiri as a result of a name-the-baby contest, from the Swahili language word for ‘hope.’

He was meant to depart the New York facility for a new North Carolina zoo in October last year, however the move did not go through.

How many babies has April the Giraffe had?

April is already mum to four other calves, including Tajiri.

Oliver the Giraffe, Tajiri’s six-year-old father, is once again April’s baby daddy.

She has two other males and a female, named Autumn.

Staff will not know the sex of the baby “until the calf’s on the ground.”
