Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Will George RR Martin be in season 8?

Will George RR Martin appear in Game of Thrones season 8?

Game of Thrones creator Martin is yet to have a cameo appearance confirmed in season eight.

Martin, himself, has even ruled out the possibility of starring in Game of Thrones’ final run.

Ahead of season eight, Martin told Entertainment Weekly he turned down the chance to star in an episode of the final series.

Martin told the publication: “[Showrunners] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do.”

WHO ARE THE GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 DIRECTORS?

The series creator continued: “But I didn’t think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast.”

This wouldn’t have been the first time Martin had appeared on Game of Thrones if he’d chosen to star in season eight.

Die-hard Game of Thrones fans will have noticed Martin’s voice used as Maester Martin in the video game adaptation of the series.

Martin also nearly landed a part in the very first episode of the HBO series.

The Game of Thrones writer even filmed a scene for the pilot episode.

Martin explained to EW: “There was a cameo in the original pilot that was cut.

“I was a guest at Daenerys’ wedding – but that was when she was played by Tamzin Merchant so all that footage got thrown out when we recast with Emilia Clarke.”

HOW LONG IS EACH EPISODE OF GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8?

While Martin’s omission from the Game of Thrones season eight cast may leave some viewers disheartened, the fact a number of fan-favourites are returning has provided excitement.

HBO, in a now-deleted post, even appeared to confirm the cast for season eight, episode one, and it included some surprising additions.

Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies) is tipped to make an unexpected return following his capture, along with Melisandre (Carice van Houten) who was later confirmed when she appeared in one of the 20 Game of Thrones season eight posters recently released by HBO.

The pair featured in HBO’s now-deleted cast list for the season’s first episode alongside Lino Faccioli, who plays Lord Robin Arryn.

Game of Thrones’ first look images of the series confirmed the returns of stalwarts Jon Snow and Daenerys, whose family connection was revealed in season seven.

The images also showed Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) – who’s tipped to die in season eight – and her brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in Westeros.

Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) had his return confirmed in the first-look pictures, as did Stark family members Arya (Maisie Williams) and Sansa (Sophie Turner).

Other Game of Thrones characters back for the final series include Sawmill Tarly (John Bradley), Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), Lord Varys (Conleth Hill), Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel), and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright).
