Giraffe Cam goes live this weekend as cameras focus on the final days of April’s epic 15-month pregnancy.
In a message to her followers, the AAP told them to be patient as it may be another two weeks before they witness a gangly, six-foot tall giraffe calf appearing on their computer screens.
The park explained: “We thank everyone for their continued support and encourage you to get out there and talk giraffes. Knowledge is power – and giraffes need a powerful partner. That’s you.”
It went on to add: “We did not anticipate doing anything like this for another one to two weeks.
“April is advancing. Behavioural and physical changes are suggesting we are very much moving towards having a calf. Perhaps sooner than the end of March, as originally predicted based on keeper observations. But hey, we’ve been wrong before.
“Wax caps have been present, udders are developing. Stargazing behaviours were observed today and lack lustre interest in feed.
“While we do not anticipate a calf this evening, tomorrow is another day…”
Recently, Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch gave Express.co.uk an update on April’s pregnancy, explaining: “April is doing wonderful. As graceful as ever, she is carrying this pregnancy in her stride…”
It is estimated that more than 1.2 million people tuned into the dramatic moments when April gave birth to her 129lb son Tajiri on April 15, 2017.
The reprise of her amazing story is now beginning to attract the kind of fervour and expectation witnessed that spring, with some followers even revealing how April’s pregnancy has become entwined with their own happy events.
One fan wrote on Facebook: “Two years ago I absolutely loved watching April and hoped and wished I might one day be pregnant again. Now April is pregnant again and after a 16 year wait I am now 17 weeks pregnant myself.”
Another added: “This time two years ago when she had her calf I was on maternity leave. Two years later she is due another calf and I am on maternity leave.
Other fans explained how they are about to begin their own journey following April’s every move.
