Amazon Echo boost – The update many customers have been waiting for arrives this month

Amazon gave its Echo Dot speaker a major refresh late last year with this entry-level device getting a new look and much louder sound.

In fact, this third generation smart speaker is now 70 per cent louder then its predecessor and its new design is certainly more pleasing to the eye.

This upgrade, which was announced last September, was clearly popular with customers as the Echo Dot has been incredibly hard to get hold of.

Amazon was out stock throughout December with January and February also proving to be tough months for anyone wanting to buy one.

Some other retailers, including Argos and Very.co.uk, have been selling limited quantities of the Dot but Amazon has been keeping customers waiting – that is until now.

The latest update from the online retailer is that this award-winning device will be back on shelves from March 6.

This means anyone pre-ordering should get their smart speaker within the next week.

It’s worth noting that the fast delivery stated above is for the Sandstone model with the Heather Grey version available from March 10 and the darker, Charcoal fabric, arriving from March 16.

As a reminderthe Echo Dot costs £49.99 and uses Amazon’s Alexa personal assistant to perform a swathe of tasks via voice search.

This means owners can ask for music to be played, timers to be set and even the heating and lights to be switched on or off just by speaking to the Dot.

Other extras included on this smart speaker include the ability to ask questions, set reminders, find out the local weather and hear news reports.

If the Dot is on your wishlist then Amazon is also helping to make it easier to buy one.

The online store recently announced the ability to take delivery of a Dot and pay the £49.99 in instalments.

This means you can get one by paying £10 per month for five months.
