EastEnders spoilers: 'Not the answer!' Jean Slater homeless in TRAGIC cancer plot twist?

Jean (played by Gillian Wright) believed her cancer prognosis would be kept a secret after Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) discovered a letter the matriarch had received from the hospital revealing she needed to go for tests at the end of Tuesday’s instalment of EastEnders.

Conflicted with her loyalties to Jean, it wasn’t long before Kat revealed all to Stacey Fowler (Lacey Turner) about her mother’s possible ill health, which led Jean’s daughter to fly off the handle and demand her mother make an appointment with the hospital.

Confronting Jean at the Queen Vic where she was working, Shirley Carter (Linda Henry) overheard the news as the matriarch tried to deny there was nothing wrong with her before running off to the park.

Meeting her mother after being informed by Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) as to where she was, Stacey managed to convince Jean she needed to go for the tests, to which she agreed after her daughter had already booked the appointment on the BBC soap.

However, returning to the Square, Shirley confronted Jean about not confiding in her about her cancer secret to which the Slater matriarch tried to deflect from the reality of the situation once more.

After speaking with Shirley, Jean went home but overheard Stacey and Kat discussing what she would have to undergo if the tests revealed she had ovarian cancer, which made Jean even more fretful.

Stacey then discovered Jean had been listening into the conversation, with her mother telling her she wanted to go for a lie down but in fact, she was packing her bags to run away from the reality of what was happening.

As Stacey called Jean for her dinner, she was left distraught when she discovered her mother had gone before Jean was seen with her bags packed at the tube station.

With Jean wanting to leave her life in Walford behind her, she left viewers of the BBC soap concerned for her wellbeing and left them guessing where she’d gone.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer feared Jean would be living rough as she struggles to accept her prognosis: “#EastEnders Jean living on the streets is not the answer.”

With Jean’s son Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky) soon to make his return, it could be Jean is about to reunite him if she turns to the streets as pictures from the Sean’s comeback scenes have seen him looking disheveled.

However, some viewers were still curious over where Jean could be going she doesn’t end up homeless, with one posting: “Where is jean going? #EastEnders.”

Another added: “Where has Jean gone?! Oh no! #EastEnders,” with a third remarking: “Oh no Jean love! What are you doing #EastEnders.”

Other viewers were left emotional by this evening’s scenes, with a fourth commenting: “#EastEnders is emotional tonight following the potential ovarian cancer diagnosis of Jean Slater.”

Whilst a sixth opined: “Jean’s storyline strikes a chord with so many people. Tonight’s episode has been emotional on all levels. #Eastenders.

A seventh exclaimed: “Poor Jean I feel so sorry for her #EastEnders,” with an eight stating: “Watching Jean is so heartbreaking and upsetting she is tough to fight through this #EastEnders.”

Elsewhere in Walford, Stuart Highway (Ricky Champ) discovered Rainie Branning (Tanya Franks) had uncovered his secret past with drugs.

Confronting her at the car lot, Stuart told Rainie the impact the drugs have had on his life, admitting he didn’t want anyone to know what he’d done in the past.

However, realising she had the upper hand, Rainie made it clear she was going to use the information to taunt Stuart after he made several sly remarks about her earlier in the week.

What does Rainie have planned and will her scheming finally land Stuart behind bars after wrecking havoc on the Square since he arrived last year?

EastEnders continues Friday at 8.30pm on BBC One
