Tonight’s instalment of the tropical mystery series plunged viewers into the unknown as it seemed to be preparing for DI Jack’s (played by Ardal O’Hanlon) exit from the island of Saint Marie.
Jack was faced with the dilemma after knowing his daughter Siobhan was suffering from a particularly devastating break-up.
It turned out the character’s boyfriend had been cheating on her for three months, and with the loss of her mother was finding coping incredibly hard.
Unable to watch his daughter in misery, Jack decided to take a break from his job and head back to London to be with her, leaving BBC viewers alarmed his character was due to be replaced.
Yet in a heartwarming twist, it turned out Jack didn’t need to leave after all as the police commissioner had secretly already arranged for Siobhan to travel to the island to be with her father.
In the final scenes as the entire group gathered to celebrate the end of yet another harrowing case, Madeleine couldn’t stop glancing at her new co-worker.
Could the show be firing up some sparks between the pair as next season gears up for a romance plot?
Things could get even more complicated with Siobhan now on the scene – will she end up staying on Saint Marie for the foreseeable future?
Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their thoughts about the final episode and what could be coming.
One person exclaimed: “#DeathInParadise they tricked us!!!”
“I’m sorry but tonights #DeathInParadise was just too ridiculous,” another posted. “But I’m so glad that Jack isn’t leaving. I don’t like Madeleine either. My god, I should stop watching but I watch in the hope it gets better. Looking forward to the new series next year.”
“#DeathInParadise I like Madeleine but what about Florence?” a third asked.
While a fourth guessed: “Ooooo maybe something will happen with Madeleine and Jack next season? #DeathinParadise.”
“Overall I liked that series! Do really like Florence though but can see myself warming to Madeleine and I bloomin love Ruby! you get what you expect with #DeathInParadise really so not going to state the obvious issues,” a fifth then mused.
Viewers continued to express their feelings over the beloved show, but many still have mixed feelings over Madeleine replacing DI Florence Cassel (Josephine Jobert).
“My #DeathInParadise predictions; Commissioner retires and hands over to Jack who finally woos Catherine. Madeleine will be DI and JP gets to be a detective, which is the least he deserves for always being too good for us all. Siobhan stays – still hoping for a SioFlo pairing!” one person said.
Another praised: “Best final ep in years!!! Just loved the finale of Death in Paradise tonight. Brilliant. Love the addition of Madeleine, she has great presence in the same way Camille had.
