In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control. During a rescue mission in outer space, Jean is nearly killed when she’s hit by a mysterious cosmic force which makes her infinitely more powerful but far more unstable. The X-Men must now band together to save her soul and battle aliens that want to use Grey’s new abilities to rule the galaxy.

Jessica Chastain as an unnamed alien shapeshifter with a mysterious connection with Xavier who manipulates the Phoenix.
Speaking to Empire, Dark Phoenix’s writer Simon Kinberg said: “I can tell you this much: Jessica’s character is not of this Earth.
“She’s an extra-terrestrial character, an alien character, I won’t say much more in detail on the specifics of that.
“While everyone else is trying to control this power inside of Jean, she’s much more interested in essentially encouraging her to go further with it and try to be the peaceful side of herself.
“She is the devil on Jean’s shoulder, so to speak.”
