Rangers boss Steven Gerrard calls out stars for UNENJOYABLE Dundee win but hails one star

The Gers claimed a 4-0 triumph over Dundee having been three goals to the good after just 23 minutes with Glen Kamara scoring his first ever senior goal against his former outfit.

Captain James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos extended their advantage with the Colombian striker scoring his 28th goal of the season in all competitions.

But Rangers’ levels dropped after the break against struggles Dundee but Jermain Defoe scored a late effort to add further gloss to a comfortable win.

The Light Blues have now gone eight games unbeaten and have scored 14 goals in their last three games alone.

And while Celtic claimed a last-gasp win at Hearts on Neil Lennon’s return as manager to keep the Hoops eight points ahead, Gerrard’s charges strengthened their hold on second place.

Aberdeen – who Rangers will face at Pittodrie in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Sunday (1.30pm) – lost to Hamilton to leave the Glasgow giants eight points ahead of the Dons in the league.

But despite achieving a third straight victory, Gerrard was not satisfied with the full 90 minutes of his team’s display.

Gerrard said: “We got sloppy, we kept giving the ball away, kept making mistakes all over the pitch and the second half wasn’t enjoyable for me.

“I don’t think we really entertained the fans in the second half.

“So I’m really pleased with the first 45, slightly disappointed with the second half but thankfully Jermain made me feel a little bit better.

“I’m pleased in general but it’s just a bit frustrating. It’s a good win and another clean sheet.

“We did the job in the first 25 to 30 minutes when we were excellent, playing with intensity and hunting the ball down, playing with a lot of energy and quality.”

Defoe scored his fifth goal in nine appearances since joining on loan from Bournemouth in the January transfer window.

And Gerrard hailed to RangersTV: “Jermain Defoe has made me feel a lot better because that’s a hell of a finish at the end.

“That is what we’ve brought him here for, to score goals.

“It doesn’t matter whether Jermain plays 90 minutes or 60 or 30, we want him to be a goal threat and his movement is fantastic.

“I used to love playing with him; he’s a dream for a midfielder because his movement tells you where to play the ball.

“It was a great pass and a great finish and he’ll continue to do that if we provide the service for him.”

Scott Arfield was taken off at half-time for Steven Davis but Gerrard played down any injury fears.

He said: “It was just a precaution. He’s had a bit of a tight calf for the last couple of weeks.”
