Fortnite Season 8 release date news confirms Driftboard fate following update 8.00

Having only just added the new item, it appears Epic Games are going to be keeping the Driftboard for Fortnite Season 8.

One of the most recent additions to the game is also one of the most delayed, having been teased months ago but only being launched in February.

And when the Driftboard finally did arrive, Epic Games confirmed it would be a limited time item.

This suggested it would only be available to use for a short period, perhaps until the end of Season 7

The description reads: “Join the battle in style riding the Driftboard! Fire at enemies, pull off tricks, and boost towards victory using this limited time item.”

However, since first introducing the Driftboard, Epic Games has shared a big update on its fate.

A new message from the development team has confirmed that the new mode of transport will be sticking around longer than first planned.

It appears feedback has been positive regarding the Driftboard, which will now be available past the Fortnite Season 8 release date.

This news was shared today but didn’t go as far as to say if and when it will be removed in the future.

“Having fun catching air and nailing tricks with the Driftboard?” a message from Epic Games asks.

“Good news, it’ll still be available in the v8.00 update! Keep sharing your favourite clips with us.”

So even when the Fortnite update 8.00 is launched by Epic Games on February 28, fans will still be able to find the Driftboard on the island.

For those that haven’t seen it yet, the Dritboard can be found scattered all around the map and has become one of the most popular vehicles available.

Players can use weapons or consumables when they ride the slopes but due to the noise it makes, it can also make you a massive target.

It seems Epic Games has done a good job of balancing the new item, which can also be used to loot and revive downed allies, all without ever getting off.

Fans reacted with a lot of positivity over on Reddit, backing the Driftboard as being a great new addition to the game.

“Yeah I love them,” one Fortnite gamer writes.

“They’re fast, loud, risky to use, abundant on the map, good for rotating and are just cool vehicles to have in the game.”

Another adds: “It’s so hard to describe, but it feels like a Fortnite item. Epic is at it’s best when their items are a little wacky and silly, but still add something solid to the gameplay overall.”
