Fortnite downtime: When is Fortnite going offline for Season 8?

Fortnite Season 8 is going live tomorrow, Thursday, February 28, across consoles, PCs and Mac. The Fortnite season 8 release date was revealed with Epic Games’ first Twitter teaser for the new Battle Pass. And gamers can potentially expect a pirate theme, with the teaser referencing treasure, loot and ‘X marks the spot’ and a sinister serpent-like creature.

Fortnite developer Epic Games’ has confirmed their servers will go offline at 9.00am GMT (4.00am ET) to prepare for the start of the new season.

And downtime will most likely last between three and four hours.

Epic also warned Fortnite fans that the patch size will be larger than normal updates.

Gamers will be free to explore the new map and Battle Pass as usual after this period.

Judging by previous seasons, this one should last for ten weeks – meaning Season 8 will likely be with us until Thursday 9 May.

And Season 9 could well begin immediately afterwards.

Fortnite Season 8 Earthquake?

An upcoming Earthquake event is hidden in Fortnite’s game files, following datelining.

Players across the games can expect to experiment intermittent tremors shaking the island.

This gives weight to the prevailing theory this earthquake marks the end of Season 7, and the beginning of Season 8.

A fissure carved its way through the ground south-west of Tomato Temple a fortnight ago.

There it remains even now, almost certainly until the end of the season.

And since then it has been joined by several similar cracks appearing across the entire north-east quadrant of the island.

These fissures are likely to continue appearing right up until the beginning of the new Season, which will of course be marked by some enormous in-game event.

You can bet there will be plenty of new skins, challenges and maybe even some new map locations in Fortnite season 8.

But it’s unclear what the Fortnite season 8 Battle Pass theme will be and what major event could spark it.

The past two Fortnite season Battle Passes have been in keeping with seasonal events going on around the time of launch.

The Fortnite season 6 Battle Pass launched in the run-up to Halloween and had a spooky theme to it, with plenty of Halloween skins.

While Fortnite season 7 launched in the run up to Christmas, hence the Xmas trees getting added to the Battle Royale map and the snowy new map locations.
