Apple Watch update – The feature owners have been waiting for may finally be coming

Apple Watch is the American tech giant’s wearable that is hugely popular.

In fact, back in 2017 the firm announced the device was the most popular watch in the world, surpassing long-established brands such as Fossil, Omega and Rolex.

In September the Cupertino-based firm debuted its Apple Watch Series 4 that improved the hardware with a new design and added health features.

Series 4 arrived with an all-screen design that made using the watch more immersive than ever before.

One of the biggest improvements to the watch was its added ability to perform an electrocardiogram if the user pressed their finger on the hardware’s Digital Crown.

We loved the Apple Watch at Express.co.uk and awarded it five out five stars in our full review of the product.

Technology Editor David Snelling said: “The Apple Watch was already the best smartwatch you could buy.

“But the Series 4 has just taken this device to another level.”

While the Apple Watch boasts copious amounts of fitness and health features, it does not currently offer any form of sleep tracking.

Sleep tracking has become increasingly popular on competing wearables from the likes of Huawei, Fitbit and more.

However, a new report from Bloomberg has said Apple may soon introduce such a function to its wearable line by 2020.

The outlet, citing people familiar with the firm’s plans, said Apple Inc is currently testing a sleep monitoring feature for the watch.

It added if the improvement is found to be successful it plans to introduce it next year.

Bloomberg was eager to discuss the potential battery challenges that could be faced by Apple if it does introduce a sleep monitoring function.

At the moment the firm pitches its wearable as being able to last a day before it needs to charge during the night.

Adding a sleep tracking feature would eliminate the possibility of the user charging the product overnight.

The outlet said for this reason it is possible the Apple Watch’s sleep tracking feature could be introduced as part of a “low-power mode”.

Moreover, it also speculated the wearable may need to be charged in the morning to accommodate for the new tool.

While Bloomberg’s new report was eager to detail new features the Apple Watch may possess, it is worth noting nothing about sleep tracking on the device has been officially discussed by the tech giant.
