David Morrissey, who famously played The Governor in The Walking Dead, revealed he would return to the show as he feels there is “a lot more” to be done with his character.
The 54-year-old actor made a name for himself in the AMC programme as the villain who terrorised Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his counterparts.
He could once again wreak havoc in Alexandria, as the TV star admitted he is not finished with his on-screen persona.
Revealing his interest in reprising the role of The Governor, David told Red Carpet News TV he “loves the character”.
“I’ve often said I’d make the tea for them if they asked me because it was a wonderful experience,” he spilled.
“It’s a show made by fantastic people, really talented people. And you want to work with those people.”
Admitting he is a fan of the show, he added: “As I say, I love the world, I love the genre, I love the character.
“So if the powers that be deemed it right to do it, I would love to [return].”
He continued: “Sometimes you walk away from a job, you think, ‘I’m finished with that character.’ Whereas The Governor, I don’t feel that.”
Teasing his potential comeback, the English star concluded: “I think there’s a lot more to mine, really.”
The return of The Governor could boost slumping viewing figures, as the show recently suffered a big hit in the rating.
Episode 10 of The Walking Dead, entitled Omega, ended up with the worst ratings in the show’s long history.
The previous lowest rated episode in season nine was Stradivarius, which was directed by former The Walking Dead cast member, Michael Cudlitz, who played Abraham Ford on the show before his brutal exit.
Omega’s ratings averaged 4.54 million viewers last weekend, and a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which was down 12 per cent on last week.
Prior to the release of Omega, the show’s previous lowest-ranked episode was Guts with 4.71 million viewers.
Guts was the second episode of season one and aired back in November 2010, however, the show was still in its infancy at the time.
Despite the show’s low ratings a fortnight ago, the series is still AMC’s most popular show, and other shows on the network have seen similar downward trends.
Also, Omega went up against an NBA All-Star game in the United States, which would have contributed to the dip in viewership for The Walking Dead.
Nevertheless, the programme might be struggling because a number of its main characters left in season nine.
