Meghan Markle news: Duchess ‘more comfortable’ abroad despite 'hoards' of paparazzi

Meghan Markle, 37, and Prince Harry, 34, were pictured leaving the residence of the King of Morocco in Rabat yesterday, on the final day of their royal tour of Morocco. The royal, who is currently pregnant with her first child, often delights fans with her stylish designer clothes. However, it’s worth noting that her look seemed very different to her glamorous outfit choices which she was pictured sporting last week, while stepping out in New York City. Having seen the snaps of what Meghan wore while taking a well-earned break from royal duties, a stylist shared their thoughts with Express.co.uk.

Stylist, fashion designer, and owner of luxury travel brand Melita Latham London Melita Latham explained that Meghan’s style suggested she was a lot more comfortable when stepping out in the American city, as opposed to when she’s on a royal outing.

“Free of the bonds of formality, pomp and circumstance, Meghan went to New York,” she said.

“Just like Dorothy heading back to Kansas, although in place of the ruby slippers, a £95k private jet, Meghan arrived home. And just look at her transformation!”

The stylist went on to discuss how the now retired actor had donned items she doesn’t normally wear when stepping out in public.

She penned: “Baseball cap? Black jeans, nude high heels and OMG…..trainers!

“Meghan could wear an old cloth sack and make it look amazing, but it’s clear that this change of garb, shows us that indeed Meghan is never more comfortable than at home.”

Melita went on to consider how her visibly different yet equally chic look could suggest that the California-born Duchess could feel more comfortable when spending time in the US.

“Stylish as ever, but considerably more comfortable, even with the hoards of paparazzi and onlookers, desperate to catch a glimpse or a saleable photograph,” she said.

“This change of dressing leaves me wondering if Meghan can really tough out the UK, let alone the confines of the royal bubble.

“Rarely have I seen her more comfortable in the clothes and surroundings as this past week,” she said, speaking on Friday.

The suggestion won’t come as a surprise to many, as most people tend to have a fond bond with the country they grew up in.

“Either way, home is home,” Melita said. “She will never be more far away from it than she is right now, in terms of distance and environment. Could anything be more opposite to life in the USA than the UK Royal Family?

“Now please understand me correctly, I have seen Meghan in some wonderful outfits over recent months.”

The stylist and fashion designer concluded: “These outfits made her look truly amazing. The significant and overriding difference while in NYC was that it was Meghan that made her outfits look good here, not the other way around.”

Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had had a private audience with the King of Morocco, at his royal residence.

The former Suits actor wore a floral Carolina Herrera Gown for her final public outing.

The floor-length gown featured a jewel neckline, and ruffles at the shoulders.

Megan’s patterned dress was predominantly pale blue, with dark blue flowers adding another dimension to the look.

While it’s not yet available to buy, the dress is thought to cost around £3,222 at pre-order.

She teamed it with a metallic gold clutch bag.

Who is Meghan Markle? Quick profile

Meghan Markle was born Rachel Meghan Markle, on August 4, 1981 to parents Doria Ragland and father Thomas Markle.

Her father was previously married to Roslyn Loveless and Meghan has two elder half sibling – sister Samantha Markle and brother Thomas Markle Junior.

Actress

Meghan’s first television appearance in the USA was in an episode of the medical drama General Hospital in 2002.

She later moved on to roles in CSI, Without a Trace and Castle along with bit parts in Hollywood films including Get Him to the Greek, Remember Me and Horrible Bosses.

Meghan was also a “briefcase girl” on Deal or No Deal – but her most famous role was as Rachel Zane in legal drama Suits, which launched in 2011.

She was written out in the finale of the seventh series when her character got married, which aired in April 2018 – just before she got married herself.

Charity and humanitarian work

Meghan Markle’s career in television has gone hand-in-hand with her support for causes close to her heart.

She wrote about the stigma around menstrual health in an article for Time magazine and was a Global Ambassador for World Vision Canada – with whom she travelled to Rwanda for the charity’s Clean Water Campaign.

And her commitment to gender equality has seen her work with the United Nations – receiving a standing ovation in 2015 for her speech to mark International Women’s Day.

Relationships

In September 2011, she wed film producer Trevor Engelson, who she began dating in 2004.

But the pair divorced two years later in August 2013, citing irreconcilable difference.

She was in a relationship with celebrity chef Cory Vitiello for almost two years, before they broke it off in 2016 but the two remain good friends.

And in June 2016, she met Prince Harry on a blind date set up by a mutual friend.

Their relationship began in October that year and just over one year later, on November 27, 2017, the pair announced their engagement.

They married on May 19, 2018 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.

Meghan’s heritage

Some have claimed Meghan Markle is the first mixed-race member of the Royal Family.

Historians are still arguing about Queen Charlotte, the wife of King George III.

But Meghan will be the first royal to openly embrace a mixed-race heritage.

She has written about the difficulties of being a biracial actress in Hollywood as she claims she is not black enough for some roles and not white enough for others.
