Ivanka Trump ATTACKED for saying ‘people want to work for what they get’ on Fox News

The First daughter spoke to Steve Hilton on Fox News about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal. He asked the US President’s daughter what does she say to the people who can be guaranteed a job through the deal. She said: “I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something.

“I’ve spent a lot of time travelling over the last four years. People want to work for what they get.

“So, I think this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. They want the ability to be able to secure a job.

“They want the ability to live in a country where there’s the potential for upward mobility.”

But critics took to Twitter to share their outrage.

Eugene Scott of “The Fix” at The Washington Post said: “Has Ivanka Trump ever had a job that her father did not give her?”

While Anand Giridharadas, an author and a New York Times editor-at-large‏ said: “Here is Ivanka Trump’s financial disclosure as a White House staffer, full of royalties from dad’s businesses.

“You decide how true a believer she is in working for what you get.”

A further Twitter user added: “Says the girl who works for her dad.”

Ms Ocasio-Cortez also hit back at Ms Trump for her comments.

She wrote on Twitter: “As a person who actually worked for tips and hourly wages in my life, instead of having to learn about it second-hand, I can tell you that most people want to be paid enough to live.

“A living wage isn’t a gift, it’s a right. Workers are often paid far less than the value they create.”

In the interview, she went on to say America is “doing very well”.

She said her father’s economic politics are “continuing to allow this economy to thrive”.

The Green New Deal proposal intends to eliminate greenhouse gas pollution in the US over the next decade while also addressing inequality with a job guarantee program.

Responding to claims she had “challenged Ms Ocasio-Cortez’s minimum wage platform”, Ms Trump tweeted: “No I did not.

“I support a minimum wage. I do not however believe in a minimum guarantee for people “unwilling to work” which was the question asked of me.”
