Coronation Street spoilers: Amy Barlow to turn to unlikely ally after hiding baby secret

Amy Barlow’s (played by Elle Mulvaney) secrets are starting to eat away at her and she will find it difficult to keep up with her lies in Coronation Street this week.

The schoolgirl had an abortion last week without consulting her parents Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford).

She will be left squirming when the pair suggest she has an ultrasound scan in tonight’s instalment of the ITV soap opera.

Her situation becomes ten times worse when her mother takes the day off work to spend quality time with her before heading to the hospital.

Unable to reveal she secretly had an abortion at that moment in time, Amy pretends to be pleased.

But in reality she is trying to figure out how she will get out of attending the appointment with Tracy.

On the mother-daughter day, Tracy drops Amy off at Audrey Roberts’s (Sue Nicholls) salon for some pampering.

At the hairdresser’s, she meets Audrey’s granddaughter Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), who knows Amy terminated her pregnancy.

Noticing something is amiss, Bethany sits down with the teenager to find out what is bothering her.

During their conversation, the salon assistant urges Amy to tell her parents the truth before things get out of hand.

Despite Bethany’s advice, Amy will struggle to tell her parents she is no longer with child.

When the time comes to head to the hospital for her scan, the youngster locks herself in her bedroom.

The frightened teen refuses to leave and tells Tracy she will not attend the appointment.

In spoiler images released by ITV, Amy is seen slouched on the floor with her back against the bedroom door.

One harrowing shot captures the only-child gazing at the ceiling as she sits with her arms across her stomach.

Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod previously revealed Amy’s plot would be about more than teenage pregnancy.

Speaking to media including Express.co.uk last December, he said: “The story becomes more than being just about a teenage pregnancy. It becomes about family and Steve and Tracy’s relationship – it forces them to instantly grow up and be parents for the first time in history.

It’s really good – it gives a leading role to Elle Mulvaney, who deserves the chance to step up and do something a bit more grown up.”

The former Emmerdale executive producer continued: “I’m very much looking forward to that. It’s also really funny. Steve and Tracy dealing with a teenage pregnancy is not like a normal couple dealing with a teen pregnancy!”

Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
