Serena Williams sends ‘coded message’ to Megan Markle in touching Oscars 2019 speech

Serena Williams, 37, who recently attended Meghan Markle’s baby shower in New York, spoke about making dreams come true as she showed a clip of the nominated movie A Star Is Born. In the latter, Lady Gaga’s character Ali achieves her dreams of becoming an international singer after she crosses paths with musician Jackson Maine (played by Bradley Cooper). Speaking of the hitmaker’s role, the tennis champion told the audience: “When we are young, we all have dreams of what we can accomplish in life. “Having the dream is easy. Making it come true is hard. Whether that dream is becoming an actor, a tennis player or a singer, like Ali in A Star Is Born.”

She continued: “In tonight’s nominee for Best Picture, we see through Ali’s eyes the highs and the low on the journey to stardom.

“There’s the rush of fame, the pressure of success – and the heartache that comes with sacrificing love for career… or career for love.”

According to the Daily Mirror, many believed her speech was referring to Meghan Markle, 37.

The Duchess of Sussex, who is heavily pregnant with Prince Harry, famously left her high profile TV role after marrying into the royal family.

The actress is widely known for starring as Rachel Zane in the US drama Suits.

Serena attended Meghan and Harry’s wedding in May last year as well as her recent baby shower.

The pair are believed to have been friends for many years.

Back in 2010, they were pictured enjoying each other’s company at a Superbowl after party.

According to The Sun, Meghan captioned the picture on her now-deleted blog The Tig: “Taking pictures, laughing through the flag football game we were both playing and chatting not about tennis or acting but about good old fashioned girly stuff.”
