The 91st Academy Awards celebrated the finest actors and actresses in Hollywood on Sunday night. The best films of 2018 were honoured at the Dolby Theatre, in Los Angeles.
The Oscars is the oldest entertainment awards ceremony, after first being broadcast on radio in 1930 and then shown on television since 1953.
Did Rami Malek win?
Rami Malek won best actor for his role as Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
In his speech, Malek thanked his parents and said to his mother, who was in the auditorium: “I love you, lady.”
He also believed that his father would be “looking down on me right now”.
Rami also paid tribute to the film’s cast and crew by saying: “I love you, you are my equals, you are my betters.”
He also gave a mention to his co-star Lucy Boyton, with whom he is now in a relationship.
Did Olivia Colman win?
Olivia Colman triumphed in the Actress in a Leading Role category for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite.
She looked genuinely shocked as she was handed her Oscar and began her emotional speech by saying the experience of winning was “genuinely quite stressful” and that “this is hilarious! I’ve got an Oscar!”
She also apologised to Glenn Close, who was in the same category for her role in The Wife, but missed out on the coveted award.
She said: “You’ve been my idol for so long – this is not how I wanted it to be.”
The 44-year-old also apologised to anyone she would forget in her speech with the promise of giving them “a massive snog” later.
