Kevin Durant: Knicks target WILL leave the Warriors for ONE big reason – NBA insider

That is what Bill Simmons of The Ringer suggested on his podcast.

Durant is a free agent this summer and has been heavily linked with a free agency move to the New York Knicks.

The Knicks created two max salary spots by trading Kristaps Porzingis before the trade deadline.

And fans believe that he will look to leave in order to lead a team by himself, after the criticism he faced when joining the Warriors in 2016.

Simmons explained that if Durant leaves, the Warriors could use it as an opportunity to reinvent their roster.

They are set to move into their new $1billion arena before next season, and have Curry tied down to stay until 2022.

If Durant does leave, it is likely that the Warriors will use the newly-opened cap space to give Thompson a max contract, and then build the remainder of the roster from there.

Speaking on the Bill Simmons podcast, the NBA insider revealed his thoughts on what the Warriors will do next.

“I think they would want him back,” Simmons declared.

“But are they going to be devastated if he doesn’t come back?

“You have this new awesome building, you have one of the top 20 all time players ever in Steph.

“You’ve got one of the best back courts ever.

“They’re a really smart organisation, do you look at this and think we’re not happy in year three, they barely made it to the end of year three, what are they going to be like in year six?

“Maybe this is a good chance if KD leaves, Draymond might leave next year, to reinvent.”

Joe House agreed, saying: “Sure, that makes sense to me.

“They’ll still be the team of the decade.”
