James Bond news: Charlize Theron the NEXT Bond – Oscar viewers nominate woman as next Bond

James Bond is a film franchise which has stood the test of time. With 26 movies since 1962, James Bond has been played by a wide array of actors. Daniel Craig, the latest Bond, is set to retire from the role after Bond 25…

Could Charlize Theron be the next bond?

Oscars viewers think she could be and have taken to Twitter to say so.

Theron presented the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor alongside Bond star Daniel Craig to Mahershala Ali for his performance in Green Book.

Seeing the two of them together sparked the Twitter fervour.

Author Chuck Wendig wrote: “Charlize Theron as James Bond. Daniel Craig as her Bond girl boytoy. SO I DECLARE”

ATOMIC BLONDE REVIEW: CHARLIZE THERON STARS IN ADAPTATION

Another viewer wrote: “Two things I know with all of my heart:

“1. Charlize Theron should be the next James Bond and

“2. it’s time to kick the red lip up with a gloss. #Oscars”

The New Yorker TV critic Emily Nussbaum said: “My room has agreed that Charlize Theron should be the next James Bond.”

Theron’s name has been bandied about in relation to Bond before.

The actress was compared to Bond during her 2017 movie Atomic Blonde, in which she played an MI6 agent named Lorraine Broughton.

At that year’s Comic-Con, she was asked whether she would consider taking the role of 007.

Theron said: “I’m fine with leaving that over to Daniel or to Idris Elba — who I think would be a freakin’ awesome Bond — and I’ll do Lorraine.”

She told Yahoo: “You know, I don’t have a feeling about it one way or the other.

“I love the idea that people are thinking outside the box.”

“And it’s just nice to see people now thinking outside of these confined ideas of what we think a character can be. I’m really all for that.

“I think it’s great that we are developing more characters within that genre for females, that they can take ownership.”

According to oddsmakers, any female actress is seventh most likely to take over from Craig.

Theron herself has 100/1 odds to take over the title.

Emily Blunt and Angelina Jolie are both ahead of Theron in the running.

Tied with Theron are Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Vicky McClure, Amelia Clarke, and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman.

Bond 25 is out in cinemas on April 8, 2020.
