Galaxy S10 news – Why you should probably wait before buying this Samsung phone

Samsung has finally revealed its next generation of smartphones which aim to improve on the current Galaxy S9 family.

These latest devices are available now to pre-order and arrive with new features such as a larger screen, more power under the hood and the ability to refill other devices by them simply touching the S10.

There’s also an embedded fingerprint scanner under the display, a larger battery and the S10 and S10+ both get a triple rear camera system.

There’s clearly plenty of reasons to be tempted by these phones and Samsung is trying to make them even more appealing by offering a free pair of wireless Galaxy Buds to anyone who hits the pre-order button.

However, before you splash out on an £899 Galaxy S10+ there could be a very good reason to wait.

New data from the team at PriceSpy reveals that savings can traditionally be made by waiting three months before making the purchase.

With an average price drop of 35 per cent and it seems fans can save around £200 by not buying a new phone at launch.

This research follows other stats from trade-in website musicMagpie, who also found previous Galaxy devices tend to tumble in price a few months after launch.

In fact, musicMagpie says they found that S9 and the S9+ decreased by 64 per cent in 10-months which was more than any other previous Samsung model over the same time period.

Interestingly, if the S10 follows the same depreciation pattern as its predecessors, such as the S6, S7, S8 and S9 models, it is set to lose at least 50 per cent of its value in the first month after launch.

These price drops are easy to see with the Galaxy S9 – which only launched 12 months ago – currently costing just £549 – that’s almost £200 less than at launch.

Speaking about the latest data, Vanessa Katsapa, country manager of UK & Ireland at PriceSpy said: “As Apple’s biggest rival, and Samsung’s best-selling model, the Galaxy S10 is one of the most anticipated phones of the year.”

“Our price history data tells us that prices on new handsets generally drop after about three months by more than £200.

“We therefore encourage Samsung fans to set up price alerts to track when the Galaxy S10’s price drops to ensure they are getting the best deal.”
