Chelsea news: Maurizio Sarri’s career ‘flashed in front of him’ – Ian Wright

That is according to Arsenal legend and BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright.

Chelsea boss Sarri stormed off when Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga refused to be substituted in extra time of the match at Wembley.

The Italian walked towards the players’ tunnel and a member of the stadium staff opened the door for him to walk through.

However, Sarri changed his mind and returned to the touchline instead.

The game eventually carried on with Kepa on the pitch and Chelsea lost the match on penalties.

And Wright says if Sarri actually went back to the dressing room, his time at Chelsea would be over.

“Whatever happens, something must have happened in his head,” Wright said on 5 Live.

“You know when people say ‘your life flashes in front of you’.

“His football career must have flashed in front of him before he pulled that door open.

“I was thinking ‘if he walks through that door, it’s over, that’s it’.

“And then what would we be doing now? He nearly walked out the door.

“So if we’re talking about misunderstanding, if it’s a misunderstanding you don’t get to that anger.”

Sarri said afterwards there was a misunderstanding with Kepa, but ex-Chelsea striker Chris Sutton insists the problem is deeper than that.

“It wasn’t a misunderstanding was it,” Sutton said.

“It was mutiny, it was anarchy, that’s what it is.

“Chelsea is lawless now, the lunatics are running the asylum.

“If you let the players get away with that, the manager looks so weak now.

“Where does he go? Something has to give at Chelsea.”
