Additionally, the handset also comes with a wide-angle system and telephoto capabilities.

UPDATE ONE: Xiaomi’s MWC event has begun.

The Chinese tech giant is currently discussing its European growth.

The firm’s Mi 9 flagship is expected to debut shortly.

ORIGINAL STORY: Mi 9 represents Xiaomi’s newest smartphone flagship that looks set to boast a wealth of compelling features for Android fans to get excited about.

Xiaomi has already announced the Mi 9 in the firm’s home territory of China but the handset looks set to debut globally today.

The tech giant’s MWC keynote will be taking place at 9.30am UK time (10.30am Barcelona time) and Express.co.uk will be attending proceedings live.

Images of the Mi 9 have already been displayed by Xiaomi on its Twitter page.

The flagship handset has been shown touting a 6.39-inch display that has an all-screen design and a notch at the top.

The panel offered by the Mi 9 has been listed as delivering a 1080×2340 resolution and a density of 403-pixels-per-inch.

Mi 9’s headline act appears to be its triple-camera system that has already received a glowing review from DxOMark.

DxOMark is a publication renowned for meticulously analysing smartphone camera arrays and awarding them a final score based on performance.

The outlet recently handed the Mi 9 a coveted tally of 107, a figure that leaves it only behind the Galaxy S10+, Huawei P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro in its rankings.

The Chinese handset comes with a 48-megapixel main sensor that is accompanied by a 16-megapixel wide-angle system and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens.

Discussing the capabilities of Xiaomi’s new flagship, DxOMark said: “Xiaomi has impressed us in the past with devices such as the Mi MIX 3 and Mi 8, but the Mi 9 takes things to a whole new level, placing the Chinese company’s latest flagship model firmly into the big league of smartphone cameras—right up there with the heavy-hitters from Apple, Samsung, and Huawei.

“With convincing results across the board and no major flaws, the Mi 9 is the third-best device so far for still imaging, edged out only by Huawei juggernauts Mate 20 Pro and P20 Pro. In video mode it does even better, finding itself at the very top of our ranking, making it the top choice for mobile video shooters.

“This is partly due to the Mi 9 being the first test device recording 4K video by default and therefore scoring very high for texture and detail, but it also puts in a very good performance in all other test categories.”

Xiaomi has already confirmed the Mi 9 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 855 chipset and have at least 6GB of RAM.

In addition to coming in a standard variant, the Chinese tech giant has confirmed a Transparent Edition of the flagship will debut and has a whopping 12GB of RAM.

The firm has also been keen to boast about the handset’s “Charge Turbo” wireless charging it claims is the fastest around.

Mi 9’s price has only been announced for China at the moment.

The handset starts at 2,999 yuan (£342.18) but rises to as high as 3,999 yuan (£456.28) for its most premium version.

It is assumed the release date for the handset will be mentioned at Xiaomi’s showcase later today.

Express.co.uk is attending the tech giant’s event and will be updating this article to reflect new announcements.
