Mississippi, Alabama weather: FEROCIOUS storms spawn severe warnings for MONSTER tornadoes

One of the tornadoes has already caused significant damage in the Mississippi city of Columbus of more than 23,000 people. Another tornado has also been spotted in Burnsville, Mississippi. The public have been alerted of the ongoing dangerous situation after one TV station WCBI News lost power and resorted to using Facebook Live to warn people.

Dax Clark, a meteorology student at Mississippi State University, told weather.com he and some classmates sought shelter at a gas station as the tornado moved through Columbus.

He said: “We knew from the radar on our phones that the tornado was moving north of us, but the wind was still crazy.

“It did not hit our gas station directly but it was still pretty substantial.”

Mr Clark stated that he had to encourage members of the public at a gas station to move away from windows and seek shelter inside public restrooms.

He added that he had witnessed significant damage to the city.

He said: “We saw homes without roofs and outer walls, a car flipped over into a ditch and lots of trees and power lines down.”
