Lakers handed MAJOR Anthony Davis trade boost because of LeBron James, Celtics blow

That’s according to former NBA star Caron Butler, who claims Davis wants to be on the same team as LeBron James.

The Lakers suffered a frustrating loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night, with Davis not even in the line-up.

James was roundly booed by the throughout the game with New Orleans fans believing the 34-year-old has something to do with Davis’ trade request.

The two All Stars share the same agent in Rich Paul, and the Lakers have been the favourites to trade for Davis for several months now.

But multiple reports have suggested the Boston Celtics will be able to offer the Pelicans a better package in the summer.

Davis confirmed at the All Star break that the Celtics are in fact on his “list”, although he went on to say all other 29 teams not named New Orleans are on there as well.

The 25-year-old is close friends with Kyrie Irving and Butler believes the prospect of teaming up with the Celtics guard.

However, Butler believes Davis still favours a move to the Lakers to join James.

“I talked to a source close to the situation and that’s why I knew the mindset for the foreseeable future what it looked like,” Butler said on NBA TV.

“The landscape for him is to have two destinations.

“I think pairing him with Kyrie Irving in the Eastern Conference will be one.

“Then obviously there is the Los Angeles Lakers.”

He added: “That [Boston] makes a ton of sense when you talk about the assets that Boston have that they can actually go out there and acquire him.

“You heard the soundbite from him saying he never said he wouldn’t want to play with the Boston Celtics and a top-tier guy, when you talk about superstars in this game, like a Kyrie Irving.

“His dad made that statement but he never made that statement.

“With that being said, that Eastern Conference is extremely attractive to landing a Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis combo.

“But most importantly I think he wants to exist with LeBron James in a Laker uniform.”
