Greatest Dancer 2019: Will BBC CANCEL Cheryl's show after SHOCKING ratings?

The Greatest Dancer premiered on BBC One in 2019 after weeks of anticipation following the success of the 2018 series of Strictly Come Dancing. The Greatest Dancer is led by Cheryl, Strictly professional Oti Mabuse and Glee star Matthew Morrison who all serve as mentors, while Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo – who hosted Dancing on Ice last year – present the programme. The show, however, has not lived up to the viewing figures of Strictly, so will the BBC cancel The Greatest Dancer or renew another series?

Will The Greatest Dancer be cancelled by the BBC?

The BBC has not yet announced any decisions about whether it will be axing or renewing The Greatest Dancer as yet.

A BBC spokesperson declined to comment on this article when approached by Express.co.uk.

Any decision is likely to be made by the broadcaster after the series wraps up later this month.

The Greatest Dancer marks Simon Cowell’s company Syco’s first co-production with the BBC.

THE GREATEST DANCER START DATE

The series has been going head-to-head with The Voice UK on rival ITV but The Greatest Dancer has been losing out.

The Greatest Dancer pulled in an average audience of 3.4 million viewers for the first live show of the competition, according to Tellymix.

The number was slightly less than the week before which saw 3.5 million people (based on overnight figures) watch the last round of auditions and callbacks.

The Greatest Dancer had a strong debut with an audience of 4.7 million people but unfortunately, this dropped to 4.2 million the following week.

HOW DOES THE GREATEST DANCER WORK?

Tonight (Saturday, February 23), The Greatest Dancer will continue at 7.10pm the four finalists take to the stage one last time, competing to win the amazing prize.

Again, the dancers will take on a new challenge and perform with their dance captain in the hopes of wowing audiences and the rest of the judging panel.

Once all the contestants have performed, the voting lines will be thrown open with the public deciding who will stay and who gets sent home.

Each contestant will be hoping to bag the £50,000 prize money and the chance to showcase their moves on this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing and take the coveted title of The Greatest Dancer.

Along with the show’s mixed ratings success, West End star Louie Spence has hit out at judge Cheryl, questioning her experience.

WHO ARE THE GREATEST DANCER JUDGES?

In an interview with New Magazine, the Pineapple Dance Studios star said: “I don’t think she’s the right person.”

Spence continued: “Is she someone like Bruce Forsyth? No. I personally don’t think she’s a national treasure.”

He added: “Oti has a lot of personality and is bubbly and maybe Cheryl feels she needs to be more quiet because she’s not really an expert in dance.”
