And the Lakers fans were far from happy by what they were seeing.
Davis played in the Pelicans’ match against the Indiana Pacers on Friday, but he was ‘rested’ for the Lakers game.
New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said Davis being sat had nothing to do with the rumours linking him with a move to the Lakers.
But with Davis out of their line-up, the Lakers were immediately the favourites to pick up the win.
However, the Pelicans stunned the Lakers over the first two quarters.
And the Pelicans went in at the half leading by 12 points, leading to some Laker fans taking to social media to vent their frustration.
One fan tweeted: “The Lakers are playing like Anthony Davis is out.”
Another posted: “Giving up 42 in a quarter to a Pelicans team lacking Anthony Davis ranks high on the list of stupid s*** the Lakers have done this season.”
A third read: “If the Lakers lose to the pelicans without ANTHONY DAVIS they officially f****** suck!”
A fourth said: “Luke should have been fired after the loss to Atlanra but losing to a Pelicans team without Ad should be an immediate firing.”
The Lakers will face the Pelicans again on Wednesday night in Los Angeles and Davis could be set to play with New Orleans not playing a back-to-back.
