Strictly Come Dancing 2019: ‘The amount of tears’ Star drops backstage bombshell

Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch presenter Simon Rimmer took part in the 2017 edition of Strictly Come Dancing, alongside the likes of Alexandra Burke, Mollie King, and Debbie McGee.

While not the strongest in the competition – Holby City actor Joe McFadden went on to win the series with professional dancer Katya Jones – Simon became a favourite with fans.

Sadly, the celebrity was knocked out in week six of the competition, after improving week on week with pro Karen Clifton.

In a recent interview with Express.co.uk, Simon revealed despite enjoying his time on the competition, there was one day which was not enjoyed across the board.

He explained: “Everything [was difficult]. Honestly there’s not one part of it that I felt was easy.

“[But] Friday was the hardest day. Do all your training, then on Friday you do rehearsals in the studio and you do rehearsals with a live band.

“In training you’re doing it off a soundtrack.”

The presenter confided: “So it’s very different when you have a live band doing it because it sounds different, never sort of quite the same, and it’s always…”

Having trailed off, the reality star then shared Fridays are known as having a very specific title, and there are often tears involved too.

“It’s known within Strictly as Friday Funking Up Day, which also begins with an F,” he said with a chuckle.

“Because no matter how well you think you’ve done with your training, once you’re actually in that studio, on that dance floor with a live band, you mess up.

“And that’s what happens every single Friday, the amount of tears on a Friday!” Simon exclaimed. “It’s unbelievable.

“You’re so tense, it’s so, so tense,” he added emphatically.

Simon went on to say there are some aspects of the programme viewers still haven’t worked out yet, including what it’s really like to be in the audience during a live show.

“When Tim came to watch, he was saying you could actually feel the tension,” Simon noted. “When you walk into the studio on a Saturday night.

“And also when you’re sitting at the side of the wall, how much faster it is.

“Because obviously when you’re at home watching it on camera, you’ve got these great camera angles etc.

“When you’re sitting alongside it, then it is much quicker than you imagine it to be, obviously not me,” the star assured with a chuckle. “But yeah it slows down.”

This year’s line-up is yet to be announced, but viewers can expect some surprises along the way.

Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to BBC One later this year.
