Reverend Ruth Scott dead: How did she die? What was BBC Radio 2 star's cause of death?

BBC Radio 2’s Reverend Ruth Scott died after revealing her cancer diagnosis, the radio station confirmed on Twitter. “Reverend Ruth Scott was much loved amongst the Radio 2 family,” the statement said. “Working with both Sir Terry Wogan and Chris Evans, her Pause for Though refections were enjoyed by millions of listeners to the Breakfast Show over the years. Our thoughts are with Ruth’s family at this sad time.” Ruth previously told Chris Evans, 52, on his new Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, that she had just weeks to live.

“I’ve got two or three weeks to live at most, so we’re in the middle of saying goodbyes with the family and thinking about how it is to be separating from one another,” she said.

“I’ve got to accept the fact I’m dying.

“I’m not frightened,” the BBC Radio 2 favourite continued. “I’ve had the most fantastic life.

“I just wish that it had been longer,” the mother-of-two added.

She spoke to long-time friend Chris from Southampton General Hospital.

During the poignant interview, she spoke about spending her final weeks with her loved ones.

“Tian [her son] keeps saying to me, ‘I love you, but it’s because I won’t be able to tell you for very much longer’,” she said.

Ruth had been receiving treatment for cancer for two years.

According to the MailOnline, she died with her husband Chris and their 30-year-old daughter Freya present.

The cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Ruth had been hoping to receive donor stem cell treatment, but was told at the beginning of the month that it was not possible.

In addition to her BBC Radio 2 role, she also worked extensively with the church as well as as a nurse and a midwife.

She married vicar Chris in 1982 after meeting him whilst working as a student nurse at St. Thomas Hospital.

Tributes have poured in for Ruth on social media, with one person tweeting: “RIP my lovely, gentle, inspirational friend Reverent Ruth Scott. I will miss you so much.”

“Very sorry to hear this,” another said following the news of her death. “Her final interview with Chris Evans was both inspirational and heartbreaking at the same time.”

“Just heard the sad news that Reverend Ruth Scott passed away,” a third wrote. “She was the chaplain at my school and a calming influence for most of my life.

“She truly was as lovely as she sounded on @BBCradio2.”
