Las Vegas weather: Rare storm GRIDLOCKS Sin City as three inches of SNOW strikes

The storm has worked its way through the Southwest with it being reported that around three inches of snow has settled. According to the National Weather Service, the amount of snow was a record for this date in the area. It was the second time in the week that snow has lashed down.

USA Today says that rain may mix with snow in Las Vegas’ metropolitan area, meaning less snow will set.

A winter weather advisory note will continue in the valley until around 4am local time on Friday.

The weather service added that winds could race up to around 35mph in the area.

Locals and visitors shared videos of themselves in the snow.

One person tweeted: “I’ve gotten second-degree burns from a summer seat belt and snow falling on top of me outside in a Las Vegas hotel hot tub.”

Another wrote: “Snow in Vegas, when it’s usually 120 degrees burning, yeah I’m hella excited!”

Last night, the state’s Route 160 was closed in both directions according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

However it was reopened two hours later after ploughs have cleared the road.

NHP reported that officials had responded to 66 crashes during the day.

Injuries were sustained in 12 of those and two were hit-and-runs.

It added that no life-threatening injuries were reported.

Delta also took to social media to give an update to its passengers and delays occurring at McCarran International Airport.

The airline said: “Delta apologies to customers for the travel delay due to weather and are working diligently to get customers to their destinations as quickly and safely as possible.”

Flights were being delays by around 60 minutes, it added.
