Jussie Smollett: Will Empire actor be fired? Producers ‘EVALUATE SITUATION’ after arrest

The American actor is in hot water after he was allegedly involved in a false race attack. He reported the arrest on January 29 while returning to his Chicago apartment in the morning. He was reportedly released on bail yesterday and will have his role on the US show reviewed by Fox executives.

In a statement, 20th Century Fox said: “We are evaluating the situation and we are considering our options.

“We understand the seriousness of this matter and we respect the legal process.”

Earlier this week, Fox had stated that the actor would not be written “out of the TV series”.

Following the latest development, however, his position is now under threat while the actor himself has told his fellow cast members of his ordeal.

According to TMZ Smollett told the cast: “I’m sorry I’ve put you all through this and not answered any calls.

“I wanted to say I’m sorry and, you know me, I would never do this to any of you, you are my family.

“I swear to God, I did not do this.”

According to the Chicago Police, the actor had allegedly used two brothers, Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo to stage a race attack on him.

He allegedly paid the £2,684 ($3,500) to attack and racially abuse him.

The two brothers however told a local radio station, that they are “not racist,” nor are they “homophobic”.

Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said: “Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations?

“How could someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol and see an opportunity to manipulate that symbol to further his own public profile?”
